Experience Italy

Parla inglese?
Parla inglese?  Do you speak English?

Although this might be the most common form of the Italian language used by Americans when traveling in Italy, it should by no means be the only connection you have with the Italian people. Of course, many Italians do speak English but if you will be traveling to little known places in Italy, outside of the tourist "comfort zone" you will need to understand and speak some Italian. That way you can experience all that Italy has to offer and interact with the Italian people speaking the language of their country.

Italians appreciate it when "tu parli l'italiano" and are more than happy to help you with pronunciation. They also like to practice their English with "gli americani"!

So try something new - try learning some Italian before your trip and you will be more than rewarded for your efforts when you are eating in an Italian ristorante in some small out of the way town, on the piazza, overlooking monuments of great historical significance, drinking wine typical of the region that you actually ordered and il cameriere will be pleased to serve you the most spectacular meal you have ever had.

Learning Italian in Courses©

My study of the Italian language began in 1999 on a road trip through Chianti with my cousins. My cousin Lidia, who is a teacher, began my "Italian education" in a very simple way.  I call it experiential learning, in order words, relating the study of the language to what you are doing at the time whether it was cooking, buying food at the Coop, ordering a meal in a restaurant, shopping for clothes or getting lost on a road trip in Tuscany.

But I soon realized that learning the language to suit the occasion was limiting. When I returned to the States I began to study Italian. Learning Italian in Courses© grew out of that experience.  Workshops and classes on Learning Italian in Courses© pair the pleasures of eating with the pleasure of learning. Students learn the language through a tastings that follow the "courses" of a typical Italian meal.
